One man killed, one deputy shot in leg after exchange of gun fire near Mountain Grove

(Updated at 4:44 p.m.-Investigators of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control are conducting the shooting investigation. After the shooting, investigators successfully served the search warrant and reportedly discovered a marijuana growing operation inside the residence. This included growing of marijuana plants, drying marijuana plants, the processing of marijuana and an assault-style weapon equipped with a silencer.)

At 9:25 a.m. today (Friday, July 5), deputies from the Wright County Sheriff's Office were serving a search warrant at a location just south of Mountain Grove.

According to Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Kinder, the officers were confronted by a male suspect in front of the house and he produced a hand gun.

Deputies told the man to drop the gun before he began firing on the officers.

Officers returned fire, fatally wounding the individual, whose name has not been released as of around 4 p.m. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

One deputy was struck in the leg by the suspect and transported by emergency services to a Springfield hospital for surgery.

Those on the scene included five Wright County deputies, two MSHP officers, and one Mountain Grove police officer.
